Yeni Kuti, the singer and daughter of the late Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, has criticized actress Ngozi Ezeonu over her recent remarks about dressing modestly during auditions.

Ezeonu had earlier advised aspiring actresses to dress appropriately and modestly for auditions. She shared an incident where she questioned two women for attending an audition without wearing bras, saying such dressing was unacceptable.

“Any other day I am on any audition table, and anybody comes in dressed like this, I will disqualify that person. How can you come to an audition ground without a bra?” Ezeonu remarked.

However, Kuti disagreed with Ezeonu’s stance, saying young women should be free to express themselves through fashion. Speaking during an episode of the talk show Your View, the 63-year-old noted that Ezeonu’s criticism was unnecessary.

“I think it was not really any of her business. All she had to do was reject them, saying, ‘I do not want people who dress like you,’” Kuti said. She also reflected on her own youthful fashion choices, suggesting older generations often forget their past when criticizing young people.

Kuti added that the actresses' personal standards could dictate whom she selects for her projects, but the criticism was excessive.

“All I am saying is when we grow, we should look back at what we wore before we judge,” she said.

The conversation has sparked discussions about generational differences in fashion and self-expression, particularly in creative spaces.
