West Ham forward Michail Antonio is in stable condition and recovering in a London hospital after being involved in a car accident in Essex on Saturday, the club announced.
The 34-year-old striker is "conscious and communicating" while under close supervision following the incident. Photos circulating online showed a heavily damaged Ferrari, though these images remain unverified.
In a statement, West Ham said: “Michail Antonio is in a stable condition following a road traffic accident this afternoon in the Essex area. He is conscious and communicating and is currently under close supervision at a central London hospital. At this difficult time, we kindly ask everyone to respect the privacy of Michail and his family.”
Emergency services confirmed firefighters were called to the scene and rescued a man trapped in the vehicle.
Antonio, who joined West Ham in 2015, has been a key player for the team, scoring 83 goals in 323 appearances. This season, he netted once in 15 games, including a standout performance in a 4-1 win over Ipswich in October.
Support has poured in from fellow Premier League clubs, with Arsenal posting on X, “Everyone at Arsenal sends their love, support, and well wishes to Michail, his family, and West Ham United.”
West Ham, managed by Julen Lopetegui, is set to face Wolves on Monday. Further updates on Antonio's condition will be provided by the club in due course.
