Social critic Vincent Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkman (VDM), has provided an update on singer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, who is currently detained by the police for allegedly defaming fellow artist Burna Boy.
VDM revealed that Speed Darlington’s legal team has indicated he might remain in custody over the Christmas and New Year holidays. He recounted his own experience with the judicial system, noting that the absence of judges can lead to extended detention periods. VDM emphasized that such delays often occur when there are intentions to prolong an individual’s time in custody.
Addressing Speed Darlington’s situation, VDM criticized him for making defamatory remarks about Burna Boy, including allegations involving American rapper P. Diddy prior to Burna Boy’s Grammy win. VDM advised caution, suggesting this incident serves as a warning against slanderous behavior. He also critiqued Burna Boy’s reaction, suggesting it contradicts his anti-oppression stance, though he acknowledged that persistent personal attacks might have impacted Burna Boy’s opportunities.
VDM mentioned that, based on discussions with certain individuals, there is a possibility that Speed Darlington could be released on Thursday, December 18, 2024, pending judicial approval of his bail.
