Two-time UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya is set to return to the octagon against France’s Nassourdine Imavov.
Brazilian middleweight contender Caio Barralho disclosed that Adesanya chose to face Imavov instead of him after discussions.
The fight will headline the UFC’s debut event in Saudi Arabia in February 2025, marking Adesanya’s first non-title fight since he defeated Anderson Silva in February 2019. The Nigerian-New Zealander is aiming to recover from two consecutive losses, including a submission defeat to Dricus du Plessis at UFC 305 in August 2024.
Despite recent setbacks, Adesanya remains a major UFC star with a 24-4 record, including 16 knockouts. Known for his striking and unconventional style, the 35-year-old has started preparations for what many see as a tactical fight to regain momentum in the division.
A win against Imavov could push Adesanya closer to a third middleweight title reign, setting up potential rematches with Sean Strickland or du Plessis. This fight is part of Riyadh Season’s sports program, reflecting Saudi Arabia’s growing influence in global sports.
