Nigerian filmmakers Tolu Ajayi and Abiola Sobo have teamed up for a new Showmax original drama series titled Princess on a Hill.
Ajayi explains that the series combines modern African settings with mythical themes, portraying business boardrooms as kingdoms. He describes characters that echo those found in fairy tales, such as a cruel king, brave knights, and a warrior princess. "We want to give the show a dreamlike quality, blending modern African elements with universal mythic experiences," Ajayi said.
The series features a star-studded cast, including Efa Iwara, Ireti Doyle, Femi Jacobs, Andrew Bunting, Mimi Chaka, and Norbert Young.
Princess on a Hill is produced by Chuka Ejorh and Shayo Oke-Sobo, with Bibi Ukpo as the writer.
Ajayi’s previous work, Over The Bridge, debuted at the New York African Film Festival and earned 12 nominations at this year’s Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards. Sobo, the creative director at Suss Productions, is best known for directing the TV series Inspector K.
