Singer Timaya has playfully expressed his admiration for controversial artist Portable, revealing that he sees a reflection of his younger self in him. In a recent interview with Channels Television, Timaya recounted the first time he heard Portable’s music and recognized their similarities.
“That’s why I like Portable; when he first came out, I told 2Baba about him on our way to Delta State. I said, ‘Have you heard that guy Portable? Zazu Zeh? He’s just like me because I was a crazy guy,’” Timaya shared.
He acknowledged that while the current generation may view him as calm and unproblematic, they don’t realize how wild he was at the start of his career. “Sometimes people say, ‘Timaya minds his business,’ and I just smile. If only they knew me back then. I was really crazy—hot like fire. But I think there’s growth.”
Addressing a rumor from his early days, Timaya denied ever having a conflict with military personnel, emphasizing the importance of wisdom in navigating his career. He stated, “No matter how crazy I was, it was all a strategy. I didn’t come as a lover boy because everyone else was.”
Overall, Timaya reflected on his journey, noting that although he was once as wild as Portable, he has since matured, attributing his past behavior to strategic decisions in his music career.
