Team Nigeria wrapped up their participation in the Paris 2024 Paralympics with a total of seven medals.
The team ended the competition in 40th place, with two gold, three silver, and two bronze medals.
On the final day of the games, Nigeria’s Folashade Oluwafemiayo made history by breaking her world record in the women’s over 86 kg para-powerlifting category. She became the first para-athlete ever to lift 166 kg, earning a gold medal for her remarkable achievement and bringing Nigeria’s total medal count to seven.
Earlier in the event, Team Nigeria had secured three medals. Isau Ogunkunle won a bronze medal in para-table tennis, Bose Omolayo claimed silver in para-powerlifting, and Flora Ugwunwa earned silver in the women’s javelin.
Ogunkunle’s bronze in the Men’s Singles Class 4 Para Table Tennis event made him the first Nigerian athlete to win an individual medal since the Sydney 2000 Games.
Omolayo took silver in the Women’s 79kg Para Powerlifting category by lifting 145 kg, while Ugwunwa’s throw of 19.26 meters in the Women’s Javelin F54 category earned her a silver medal.
On Friday, powerlifter Onyinyechi Mark won Nigeria’s first gold medal by lifting 150 kg in the women’s 61 kg category.
Unfortunately, Loveline Obiji was disqualified from the women’s 86 kg para-powerlifting event, leaving Oluwafemiayo as the last Nigerian athlete to compete. As the Team Nigeria captain, she ended the event on a high note by winning a gold medal on the final day.
