Veteran Nollywood actor Sylvester Madu has addressed recent backlash following a viral video that showed him arranging clothes in a local market, leading to speculation about his involvement in selling ‘okirika’ (second-hand clothes). In response, Madu clarified that he does not sell okirika but instead purchases discounted items in the U.S. to resell in Nigeria.

He emphasized that the term ‘okirika’ is often misunderstood and stigmatized, stating, “They keep talking about okirika as if it’s one thing that originates from the gutter. 80% of Nigerians use okirika. The cars we drive are okirika. Some of the TVs in your house are okirika. Or you think it’s only clothes that are okirika?”

Madu’s comments have sparked discussions about the perception of second-hand goods in Nigeria, highlighting the widespread use of imported items across various sectors.
