John Stones has apologized to Manchester City fans after their shocking 5-1 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.

City equalized early in the second half when Erling Haaland canceled out Martin Ødegaard’s second-minute goal at the Emirates Stadium. However, the defending champions crumbled soon after, conceding four more goals.

Just moments after City’s equalizer, Thomas Partey’s shot deflected off Stones and into the net. Arsenal then ran riot, with Myles Lewis-Skelly, Kai Havertz, and Ethan Nwaneri adding to City’s misery.

Frustrated by the result, Stones admitted the team’s performance in the final 30 minutes was unacceptable.

“I’m angry and upset, both personally and as a team. We don’t take losing well. It’s hard to find the right words,” Stones said. “Sorry to the fans. Watching us play like that in the last half-hour is unacceptable.”

This was City’s seventh league defeat of the season, leaving them 15 points behind the top spot. With their hopes of a fifth straight Premier League title all but over, Arsenal’s dominant win keeps them in the race.
