Senator John Azuta-Mbata has been elected as the 13th President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, a leading Igbo socio-cultural group.
The election took place on Friday in Enugu, where Azuta-Mbata emerged as the new leader, replacing Fidelis Chukwu, whose tenure has ended.
Azuta-Mbata, who hails from Rivers State in Nigeria’s South-south region, is the first person from the area to hold this position, marking a historic moment for the organisation.
The election was conducted through voice voting, and 15 others were also elected to serve in various executive roles within the group.
A former senator for the Rivers East constituency from 1999 to 2007, Azuta-Mbata brings years of experience to his new leadership role.
