The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) nominees party recently took place at the United States consulate in Lagos, with the theme "Afrobeats Royalty." Hosted by MTV Base, the event celebrated the top talents in Afrobeats who are driving the genre forward and making their mark on music history.
US Consul General William Stevens highlighted the global rise of Afrobeats and its role in strengthening the cultural ties between Nigeria and the United States.
The night featured energetic performances from some of Nigeria’s top musical acts. Ayo Maff thrilled the crowd with his hit song "Dealer," while Dotty the Deity captivated the audience with a soulful performance of "Forever Sweet Valentine." Zadok had everyone dancing with a medley of classic Afrobeat anthems, and Pheelz delivered an electrifying rendition of his popular track "Finesse," featuring BNXN.
The event was attended by several celebrities, including Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Cohbams Asuquo, Director Pink, E-Money, Leo Dasilva, and Fiokee.
