Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has condemned the alleged threats against National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member Ushie Rita Uguamaye, known as Raye, following her viral video criticizing the current administration’s economic policies. Obi emphasized that such intimidation undermines democratic principles and discourages constructive criticism essential for national progress. He urged Nigerians to continue voicing their concerns, asserting that a government that silences its citizens is neither democratic nor accountable.

Raye’s video highlighted the economic hardships faced by citizens, prompting alleged threats from NYSC officials and a summons to appear before a panel. Obi’s support for her stance reflects a broader call for protecting free speech and encouraging active citizen participation in governance.

This incident has sparked discussions on social media about the balance between respecting institutional protocols and safeguarding individual rights to free expression. Obi’s intervention highlights the need for a democratic environment where citizens can openly share their views without fear of retribution.
