Paul Pogba is now eligible to return to football as his 18-month doping ban officially ends. However, the French midfielder must find a new club before stepping back onto the pitch.
The former Manchester United and Juventus star hopes to revive his career and make a case for a spot in France’s squad for the 2026 World Cup. Among his possible destinations is David Beckham’s MLS club, Inter Miami.
A Career Full of Setbacks
Pogba’s career has been troubled in recent years. After leaving Manchester United in 2022, he rejoined Juventus but struggled with injuries and inconsistent performances. In August 2023, he tested positive for a banned substance after a Serie A match, leading to a four-year suspension, which was later reduced to 18 months on appeal.
The 31-year-old blamed a food supplement prescribed by a U.S.-based doctor for the positive test. Juventus terminated his contract in November 2024, leaving him without a club.
Despite this, a member of Pogba’s entourage insists he is in great shape. “He is training at full intensity, in good spirits, and has received many offers,” the source said.
Clubs Considering Pogba
Pogba has kept himself fit in Florida, where he lives, and has been spotted at Inter Miami’s matches. He is working with Lionel Messi’s fitness coach to stay in shape.
French club Marseille has also been linked with the midfielder. Their football director, Medhi Benatia, previously played alongside Pogba at Juventus. However, there are concerns about his form after such a long absence from competitive football.
In January, Pogba revealed that he had received several offers but was not interested in moving to Russia. "A contract doesn’t depend only on me, but on many factors," he said.
Aiming for a Fresh Start
Pogba has faced challenges both on and off the pitch. In 2022, he was a victim of a kidnapping and extortion case involving his brother Mathias and childhood friends, who were later sentenced to prison.
Following the trial’s conclusion in December, Pogba expressed relief. “I can finally move on from this painful chapter and focus on the future,” he said.
Now, the midfielder must find the right club to restart his career and prove he still belongs at the top level.
