Nigerian boxer Elizabeth Oshoba is targeting the world’s top spot in the super lightweight category after entering BoxRec’s top five rankings for the first time.
Currently ranked fourth, the 25-year-old trails big names like Katie Taylor, Amanda Serrano, and Chantelle Cameron.
“Nothing much to say, I’m aiming for number one. May God help me,” Oshoba said.
Oshoba, the WBC silver featherweight champion, had an impressive year in 2024, winning all her eight professional bouts, five of them by knockout. Her most recent triumph was a third-round knockout against Argentina’s Agustina Rojas in June.
In January, she made history as the first female Nigerian boxer to win a world title by defeating Italy’s Michela Braga in a 10th-round knockout at Copenhagen’s Royal Arena to claim the WBC silver featherweight crown.
“Yes, of course, I feel on top of the world. I am very happy with this title, it is my first (world) title but I am still focused and I can’t wait to fight more world title fights,” she said after that victory.
Oshoba is ranked above American Samantha Worthington, while Ireland’s Katie Taylor (24-1, 6KOs) leads the rankings. Puerto Rico’s Amanda Serrano (47-3-1, 31KOs) and Britain’s Chantelle Cameron (20-1, 8KOs) follow in second and third positions, respectively.
Remi Aboderin, Secretary-General of the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control, is confident in Oshoba’s potential.
“Now that she still has age and youthfulness on her side, she’s worthy of the main title, and that should be her goal. We believe she and Efe Ajagba will soon be the made-in-Nigeria world boxing champions,” he said.
Oshoba also holds the IBO female super-featherweight title, which she secured in November 2023 after defeating Italian Martina Righi by unanimous decision.
