Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has expressed deep disappointment over Nigeria’s poor performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, describing it as a national embarrassment. Despite Nigeria’s large population of 200 million people, the country failed to win a single medal, which Obi attributed to the mismanagement and lack of leadership within the nation’s Olympic administration.
In a statement released on Sunday, Obi criticized the ₦12 billion spent on the Olympic campaign, stating that it did not yield any justifiable results. “Now that the Paris Olympics 2024 has officially ended, and our dear Team Nigeria is returning without a single medal, despite the huge financial investment, I must express my deep displeasure with the performance of our team and their handlers,” he said.
