Nigerian wrestler Blessing Oborodudu has been defeated by Kyrgyzstan’s Meerim Zhumanazarova in the semifinals of the women’s 68kg wrestling event at the 2024 Olympics.
Oborodudu’s loss means she will not achieve her goal of becoming the first Nigerian wrestler to advance to consecutive Olympic finals.
The World Bronze medallist will now await the outcome of the repechage matches to determine if she can secure a bronze medal at this year’s Games.
In a dramatic quarterfinal match, Oborodudu showcased her resilience by overcoming a two-point deficit to defeat World No. 3 Koumba Larroque of France with a score of 6-2.
Despite the enthusiastic support for the home favorite Larroque, Blessing Oborodudu’s performance demonstrated her skill and determination on the mat.
