Nollywood actor Mike Afolarin recently opened up about the challenges and fulfillment he experienced while working on the new Netflix film *House of Ga’a*. Afolarin, who plays a lead role in the movie directed by Bolanle Austen-Peters, revealed that the project pushed him to his creative limits like no other in his career.
In a special interview with Pulse Nigeria, Afolarin expressed how this biopic provided a unique challenge that intrigued him. He said, "The fact that this was different from anything I have done before was what made me intrigued. To get involved on a deeper level and find myself. This is the most creatively fulfilling journey that I have ever been on as a performer."
Known for his roles in *Ajosepo*, *Soólè*, *Ajuwaya*, *Freedom Way*, and the Netflix series *Far From Home*, Afolarin discussed the challenge of practicing his lines in Yoruba during production. Despite finding the language difficult, he embraced the opportunity to deepen his connection with his character. He recounted, "When we did the read, I wasn’t sure if we were supposed to prepare for this in English or Yoruba, and somewhere in between, we were asked to switch to Yoruba, and I was shocked. A couple of people struggled with it at first, but that’s what made me want to get involved and find the root of the character I was playing."
*House of Ga’a* is set in the 18th-century Oyo Empire and tells the intense story of Ga’a, a politically ambitious figure who betrays several kings in his ruthless quest for power.
