An investigative panel has concluded there is no evidence to support claims that popular crossdresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, spent his six-month jail term outside of prison. The finding was announced by Uju Agomoh, Executive Director of Prisoners’ Rehabilitation and Welfare Action, during the panel’s report presentation at the Ministry of Interior.
Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in prison for naira mutilation on April 12 and released on August 5. Accusations surfaced from activist VeryDarkMan, who alleged that Bobrisky stayed in a lodge rather than the Kirikiri prison due to influential connections, further claiming he bribed EFCC officials with N15 million to dismiss money laundering charges.
In response to these allegations, Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo initiated a probe, forming a panel led by Magdalena Ajani to investigate claims of corruption and violations within the Nigerian Correctional Service. However, Agomoh confirmed that the panel found no evidence indicating that Bobrisky was not imprisoned during the specified dates.
