Nigeria’s U-19 women’s cricket team, the Junior Female Yellow Greens, are gearing up for the 2025 T20 World Cup Qualifiers after the tournament in Kigali, Rwanda, was rescheduled.
The tournament, which is the second edition, will be held in Malaysia from January 8 to February 2, 2025, featuring 16 teams.
Originally, Nigeria was set to compete in a two-group tournament with seven teams each. However, the late inclusion of Zimbabwe led to the top four teams withdrawing to form a new division.
As a result, the Junior Female Yellow Greens are now placed in Division 1 of the Africa Qualifiers. This division, which includes Nigeria, Namibia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe, will take place from September 23 to 29 in Kigali, Rwanda. Meanwhile, Division 2, featuring seven other teams, began on Wednesday in Rwanda, where they will compete in a single round-robin format. The top two teams from Division 2 will join Division 1 for the final tournament.
The winner of the Division 1 qualifier will secure Africa’s second spot in the World Cup tournament in Malaysia. They will compete in Group C of the World Cup finals, alongside South Africa, New Zealand, and Samoa.
