Singer Shallipopi has sparked debate by insisting that Nigerian artistes should charge fees comparable to their American counterparts if their music achieves similar success.
In an interview with News Central TV, Shallipopi rejected claims that Nigerian artists have overpriced themselves, arguing that pricing should reflect an artist’s reach and streaming numbers.
He stated, “If your music has the same streams as an American artist, you should charge like they do. But if not, you can’t overcharge.” His comments have added fuel to the ongoing debate over high performance fees in the Nigerian music industry.
