American rapper Nicki Minaj, whose real name is Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty, stunned Nigerians on Monday by tweeting in Nigerian Pidgin English.
The 41-year-old took to social media to call out a user on X (formerly Twitter) for using her name to gain clout, writing, "I must be the only person you can make money off mentioning. Go 1 day. Abeg. GO ONE F***ING DAY WITHOUT F**G LYING ABEG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
The tweet quickly grabbed attention, with many Nigerian users surprised by Minaj's command of Pidgin English. One user, @tyxhndrxx, even asked, "Who Dey teach Nicki Minaj pidgin language?"
In response, Nicki clarified that she's no stranger to Pidgin English and can easily understand it. She responded, "Wetin be the confusion? I Dey have eyes o? I can read all the pidgin weh una pikin de put on my timeline every day. 'SUCKS TEETH LOUDLY.'"
