Newcastle United has entered the competition to sign Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen in 2025, with the club’s owners, the Public Investment Fund, prepared to activate his £113 million release clause.
According to Chronicle Live’s Lee Ryder, Newcastle is among the teams likely to be offered the chance to sign the 25-year-old, currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli. Osimhen has been in remarkable form with Galatasaray since his September move, scoring eight goals in nine games, including six in six Turkish Super Lig matches. His latest performance included two goals in a 3-2 win over Samsunspor, keeping Galatasaray at the top of the league.
Roma manager Jose Mourinho, a long-time admirer, has expressed his high regard for Osimhen, saying, “Osimhen is a fantastic player. If I was at a club that could afford £70-75 million, I’d buy him,” he told The Independent. This praise has reportedly encouraged Fenerbahce to consider a bid, aiming to outdo Galatasaray's proposed €50 million offer.
However, Napoli’s Sporting Director, Giovanni Manna, has clarified that any team wanting to sign Osimhen must pay a minimum of €75 million.
Newcastle’s interest follows a quiet summer transfer window. Manager Eddie Howe is eager to strengthen the attack, with fans excited about a potential pairing of Osimhen and current striker Alexander Isak. However, the club’s financial regulations may pose challenges.
Chelsea and several Saudi Pro League clubs also remain interested, setting up a potential bidding war in 2025. Meanwhile, Fenerbahce Vice President Acun Ilıcalı seems less inclined to pursue Osimhen, citing the team’s depth in forward options.
