Netflix has officially renewed the superhero series *Supacell* for a second season. The announcement was made on August 13, 2024, following the successful debut of the first season in June 2024. The show, which dominated the Netflix Top 10 English-language TV charts for six weeks, explores themes such as knife crime, racial profiling, poverty, the exploitation of Black bodies, and sickle cell disease.
Directed by Andrew Onwubolu, known as Rapman, *Supacell* follows five Black South Londoners who discover mysterious powers linked by a shared history of sickle cell disease. The series has been praised for its performances, direction, and its focus on raising awareness of sickle cell disease.
Rapman, who has planned the show through to its third season, expressed his excitement about the continuation, stating, “I’ve had this mapped out for years, so I’m ready to go.” The cast includes Tosin Cole, Nadine Mills, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, Calvin Demba, and others. The second season promises to build on the strong foundation established by its predecessor.
