Nollywood actor Yomi Fabiyi has reportedly left Nigeria after an alleged assassination attempt against him.
The news surfaced after Fabiyi missed a recent Coroner court hearing regarding the death of singer Mohbad and failed to lead a planned protest at the Lagos State Assembly on September 30, 2024.
In a video posted on Instagram, Fabiyi explained that he had received threats to his life, which made him stay away. He claimed to have narrowly escaped an assassination attempt just two days earlier. Fabiyi had planned the protest to align with the start of the coroner’s investigation into Mohbad’s death, a case that has drawn a lot of attention and anger from the public. However, Fabiyi said he had to put his safety first over the protest.
His statements have caused concern and debate among his supporters, as he claims he is being targeted because of his efforts to fight for justice for Mohbad.
“I escaped assassination two days ago, and they still planned to kill me tonight. If they had succeeded, I would have been buried tomorrow,” he said.
“They will now waste me all because I’m fighting for justice. I didn’t collect money from anybody. I am just doing my own for God. I have to run for my life. I just left Nigeria unplanned, and as it is now, I don’t even know my destination,” he added.
