Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson has predicted Tyson Fury would defeat Anthony Joshua in a potential fight, pointing to Joshua’s “telegraphed punches” as a weakness against Fury’s skill. Tyson, who held multiple heavyweight titles, acknowledged Joshua’s power but noted his punches are easy to anticipate, which could be risky against Fury, who stands at 6ft 7in.
In a recent interview with BBC Sport, Tyson said, “Joshua is a powerful puncher, but you can see his punches coming. That’s dangerous if you’re fighting Tyson Fury.”
Tyson didn’t include Joshua in his list of top current boxers, favoring Fury, Deontay Wilder, Andy Ruiz Jr, Vasyl Lomachenko, and Gervonta Davis. He also left out current champion Oleksandr Usyk.
A potential fight between Joshua and Fury may happen depending on the result of Fury’s rematch with Usyk next month. Both boxers recently faced setbacks, with Joshua, 35, knocked out by Daniel Dubois in September, and Fury, 36, losing his WBC title to Usyk by split decision in May.
Joshua is currently recovering from injuries and isn’t expected to fight again until at least May 2024, according to his promoter, Eddie Hearn.
