Pep Guardiola says Manchester City's recent three-game winning streak has improved the team’s morale, but he remained cautious about January transfer plans to address injuries in the squad.
City had struggled with just one win in 13 matches across all competitions before their 2-0 victory over Leicester on December 29. This was followed by a 4-1 win against West Ham in Julen Lopetegui's final game as their manager and an 8-0 thrashing of fourth-tier Salford in the FA Cup.
“Before, it was impossible to win one, so now we’ve won three and that helps us,” Guardiola said ahead of Tuesday's league match against Brentford.
City, sixth in the Premier League table, are two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea in the race for a Champions League spot. Guardiola praised Brentford’s strength, noting their home record is second only to Liverpool's.
City captain Kyle Walker’s future remains uncertain as the 34-year-old has expressed interest in playing abroad. Walker has not started for City since their 2-1 loss to Manchester United in mid-December, and Guardiola said he would decide later on Monday if Walker would feature against Brentford.
On transfer rumors linking City with Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov, Guardiola stated: “The club didn’t announce anything. I don’t know.”
