Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman has emerged as the highest-rated player in the Italian Serie A this season, outshining some of the league’s biggest stars.
After 29 rounds of matches, Lookman leads the WhoScored rankings with an impressive rating of 7.37, surpassing Inter Milan’s attacking duo, Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martínez, as well as key players from Juventus, AC Milan, and AS Roma.
Despite playing only 23 games, the Atalanta forward has been in exceptional form, scoring 13 goals and providing five assists. He also averages 2.1 key passes per match, the highest in the league.
Thuram, who has matched Lookman’s 13-goal tally and added four assists, follows closely with a 7.29 rating. Martínez shares third place with Atalanta’s Mateo Retegui, both rated at 7.22.
The top five also includes Inter Milan’s Hakan ÇalhanoÄŸlu (7.19), followed by Como’s Nico Paz (7.18), Lazio’s Mattia Zaccagni (7.17), AS Roma’s Alexis Saelemaekers (7.11), AC Milan’s Rafael Leão (7.11), and Fiorentina’s Moise Kean (7.09).
Since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig in 2022, Lookman has become one of Serie A’s most consistent players, scoring 37 goals and providing 18 assists in 85 league appearances.
His time in Italy has brought both individual and team success. He played a key role in Atalanta’s UEFA Europa League triumph last season, securing the club’s first-ever European title.
On the international stage, Lookman was instrumental in Nigeria’s journey to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final. His performances earned him the prestigious CAF African Player of the Year award, making him the sixth Nigerian to receive the honor. Notably, he is the first player to win the award after switching national teams from England to Nigeria.
