Liverpool manager Arne Slot has encouraged Mohamed Salah to extend his contract at Anfield rather than pursue a move to Saudi Arabia.
Salah, who has been in top form this season, is set to become a free agent in June, fueling speculation about a potential switch to the Saudi Pro League. In a recent interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Saudi sports minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal expressed interest in bringing Salah to the Middle East.
“Definitely, because if he ticks all the right boxes, even for us, we’d love to have him,” the minister said. “We feel like we are one with the Egyptians, from our culture and our history and so on.”
Despite leading the Premier League scoring charts with 19 goals, Salah revealed in December that he was still “far away” from agreeing to a new deal with Liverpool.
Slot, speaking at a pre-match press conference, made it clear that the club is eager to keep their star forward.
“We want him to extend, of course. That is clear,” he said. “But I’m not surprised that Saudi wants him, or that other countries do as well. He’s made smart decisions throughout his career, and I trust he’ll do the same this time—hopefully in Liverpool’s favor.”
Slot also acknowledged the club's contract concerns, with key players Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold also nearing the end of their deals.
Liverpool, currently leading the Premier League, face Bournemouth in their next match.
