Liverpool is eyeing Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen as a potential replacement for Darwin Nunez.
Reports suggest Liverpool are preparing to enter the race for the Napoli player, currently on loan at Galatasaray, ahead of the summer transfer window.
Liverpool's incoming sporting directors, Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards, reportedly see Osimhen as an ideal fit. Edwards has followed the striker's career closely since his early days in Belgium and France. Osimhen has impressed this season, scoring 13 goals and providing five assists in 16 matches for Galatasaray.
The 26-year-old's future has been uncertain since his fallout with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who criticized the striker for rejecting a January move to Manchester United. De Laurentiis commented, “Let him stay where he is. Tell Galatasaray to take Osimhen.”
Osimhen’s release clause is set to drop from €120m to €75m this summer, potentially fueling interest from Premier League giants like Arsenal and Manchester United.
Despite the speculation, Osimhen has stated his commitment to Galatasaray until the end of the season. “I will not leave in January. I am at Galatasaray until the season ends,” he said after scoring twice in a Europa League game against Tottenham.
Former Galatasaray coach Hamza HamzaoÄŸlu believes the Turkish club cannot afford a permanent deal for Osimhen, who has scored 10 goals in the Super Lig.
Paris Saint-Germain has withdrawn from the race for Osimhen, potentially clearing Liverpool’s path if Nunez departs. Nunez, who joined Liverpool for €85m from Benfica, has reportedly attracted interest from Saudi clubs.
Galatasaray remains determined to retain Osimhen until the season concludes, despite growing interest from England.
