Nigerian actress and film producer Lilian Afegbai has addressed the prevalent labeling culture in Nollywood, urging the public to avoid generalizing about actresses’ lifestyles. She emphasized that the entertainment industry demands hard work and dedication, and it’s unfair to assume that all actresses rely on wealthy men for support. Afegbai called for less judgment and more understanding, highlighting that divorce rates are not unique to the entertainment sector but occur across various professions.
Afegbai, known for her role in the reality show Big Brother Africa and her award-winning production debut “Bound,” also shared personal experiences of facing criticism and misconceptions. She recounted an incident during her university days when a scene she acted with Jim Iyke nearly led to her expulsion, underscoring the challenges actors face in their careers.
In her message, Afegbai appealed for empathy and support for those in the entertainment industry, encouraging people to focus on individual merits rather than perpetuating stereotypes.
