Nigerian singer Jaywon has publicly apologized to Ayra Starr amid backlash over a social media post that fans perceived as mocking her recent Grammy snub. When the 67th Grammy nominations were announced, Ayra Starr—despite her strong success this year—did not receive a nod. Shortly after, Jaywon, who has had public tensions with Starr in the past, posted a photo with two Grammy awards, sparking speculation of a subtle dig.

Following the criticism, Jaywon clarified his intent, expressing regret and praise for Ayra Starr’s talent. “I’m sorry she wasn’t nominated for this year’s Grammys. I’m a huge fan and believe she’s one of Africa’s finest female vocalists,” he said, emphasizing his belief in fostering positivity.

Jaywon, a voting member of the Recording Academy, reassured fans that he’s committed to uplifting fellow artists, not pulling them down.
