Japanese drama “Shogun” makes history with 18 awards at Emmys

The Japanese-language series "Shogun" made history at the 76th Emmy Awards, winning 18 awards.

The historical drama, set in feudal Japan, took home the top prize for Outstanding Drama Series. Its stars, Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai, also made history as the first Japanese actors to win Emmy Awards.

Sanada, who won Best Actor, called "Shogun" a "dream project" that brings East and West together. "When we work together, we can make miracles," he said.

Other big winners of the night included "Hacks," "The Bear," and "Baby Reindeer."

"Shogun's" 18-award sweep sets a new record for a single season of a drama series at the Emmys, the highest honors in television.
