Super Eagles midfielders Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi are gearing up for the upcoming 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda as the national team aims to bounce back in the next international window.
Nigeria is set to play Benin Republic on Saturday, September 7, in Uyo, followed by a match against Rwanda three days later.
Interestingly, both Benin Republic and Rwanda are also in Nigeria’s group for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Benin Republic, coached by former Super Eagles manager Genort Rohr, previously defeated Nigeria in their first-leg match in Abidjan in June.
As the qualifiers approach, Ndidi and Iwobi expressed their determination to help the Super Eagles get back on track. Speaking after their English Premier League match at Craven Cottage on Saturday, the two players emphasized the importance of winning. "We’re not where we want to be, so we need to regroup, fix our mistakes, and go all out in these matches. We definitely need the win. They had their victory in Abidjan; let's see what happens in Uyo," said Leicester City midfielder Ndidi through the Super Eagles’ X account.
Iwobi, who scored the decisive goal in Fulham’s 2-1 win over Leicester, is also confident that the team will deliver strong performances. “We have a lot to prove. I always say we have great quality in the team, and hopefully, we can earn the points needed to qualify because it's something we all want to achieve,” Iwobi added.
