Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho has completed his medical at Middlesbrough ahead of a loan move from Sevilla until the end of the season.

The 28-year-old Nigerian striker will join the Championship side, which has the option to make the transfer permanent in the summer. Middlesbrough will cover most of the €2 million Sevilla still owes him for the remainder of the campaign.

Iheanacho struggled for form in Spain after joining Sevilla from Leicester City last summer, failing to score in nine La Liga matches. His only goals for the club came in the Copa del Rey, where he netted three times.

His playing time at Sevilla became even more limited after the arrival of fellow Nigerian striker Akor Adams from Montpellier. With transfer speculation and a minor injury keeping him out of action since January, the club made it clear he was not part of their future plans.

Iheanacho turned down offers from Greek sides PAOK and Panathinaikos, as well as Italian club Venezia, in favor of returning to England. A potential move to Scottish champions Celtic also collapsed despite interest from his former Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers.

Now at Middlesbrough, Iheanacho hopes to regain his scoring form as the club, currently seventh in the Championship with 44 points from 29 games, pushes for Premier League promotion.
