Nigerian superstar REMA boldly declared that every Afrobeats artist who has emerged since 2019 has been following the template he introduced. During a candid interview on *The Breakfast Club*, the "Ozeba" hitmaker took credit for pioneering the now-popular trend of new artists debuting with an extended play (EP).
“When I came into the game, I brought a different template. I started the EP trend. Every new Afrobeats artist since 2019 has followed that path – dropping an EP when they first pop out,” REMA asserted, clearly unafraid to stake his claim in shaping the genre’s modern landscape.
He also expressed frustration with industry veterans for downplaying his influence, saying, “A lot of people would argue [about my impact]. Sometimes, the OGs don’t want to admit it, so I have to say it myself.”
REMA’s bold statements have certainly stirred the pot, as he stands firm in his belief that his innovative moves have redefined how Afrobeats newcomers rise to fame. Whether the industry acknowledges it or not, REMA is unapologetically taking credit for changing the game.
