Popular Nigerian DJ Jimmy Jatt has opened up about his health struggles, revealing he lost sight in one eye and battled chronic kidney disease.

Speaking during an interview on Rubbin Minds, the disc jockey shared how his health challenges began during the 2020 lockdown in Nigeria. He attributed his health issues to his frequent international travels.

Jimmy Jatt disclosed that in 2020, he lost vision in one eye and had to undergo surgery to restore it. He later discovered he had chronic kidney disease and underwent dialysis before receiving a kidney transplant in 2022.

“Maybe I caused it myself,” he admitted. “In 2019, I decided to spend more time outside Nigeria. I had lived my whole life in Lagos and wanted to explore other parts of the world. But in 2020, I started experiencing health issues.”

He explained that travel restrictions during the COVID-19 lockdown kept him in Nigeria, where he dealt with his vision loss. After surgery, he continued his plan to relocate abroad, moving to the U.S.

“While in the U.S., I was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease and started dialysis. Later, I returned to Nigeria for a kidney transplant,” he said.

After the successful procedure, Jimmy Jatt took time off to recover. He resumed DJing abroad, performing across Europe and America, before finally returning to Nigeria in December 2024.

The veteran DJ has since been raising awareness about health challenges and using his platform to encourage conversations around sensitive topics like suicide prevention.
