The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye has shared a personal story about how he nearly lost his life seven years ago.

Speaking at the March edition of the Holy Ghost Congress, the 83-year-old pastor recalled falling seriously ill during an evangelism trip to Ilesha. He said the poor road conditions left him with severe body aches, and by Christmas, he was bedridden.

“By the third day of the Go and Fishing program, my body could not take it anymore. The roads were very bad, and I broke down completely,” he said. “For the first time in my life, I spent Christmas in bed. The devil thought he had finally gotten me.”

Due to his critical condition, Adeboye had to charter a helicopter back to the RCCG campground. He believed traveling by road could have been fatal.

“To get me back to camp, I needed to charter a helicopter. I was so weak that if I had traveled by road, I would have died between Ilesha and here,” he added.

He also recalled an incident where some area boys tried to prevent the helicopter from taking off by holding onto it, even breaking one of its windows.

“But somehow, I managed to get to the camp,” he said. “I had an assurance that if I could just get there, I would recover. Seven years later, I am still here.”

Adeboye expressed gratitude to God for sparing his life and keeping him strong years after the health scare.
