A recent investigation by the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) has revealed that Nigerian social media personality, Bobrisky, served only three weeks of his six-month sentence in prison.
Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in jail for Naira abuse by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos on April 12. However, he regained his freedom on August 5, sparking speculation about his early release.
The FIJ report alleges that Bobrisky was initially taken to Kirikiri prison but disappeared from the facility after about three weeks.
"Bob spent only three weeks here with us in Kirikiri before he was taken out to another place we don’t know," a prison official told FIJ. "That was where he spent his time; it was an ‘arrangee thing.’ And money was involved."
According to the report, Bobrisky received special treatment during his brief stay in prison, living in a special cell and receiving VIP treatment.
The investigation also supports allegations made by VeryDarkMan (VDM) that Bobrisky claimed to have paid N15 million to EFCC operatives to drop the money laundering charge against him.
The early release and alleged special treatment have sparked controversy and raised questions about the fairness of the justice system.
