The Headies is shaking things up in 2025 with a back-to-back showdown. The prestigious Nigerian music awards, which spent the last two years in the U.S., is making a full-circle return to Lagos with not one but two editions in the same year.
Ayo Animashaun, the brain behind The Headies, made the big reveal on Tuesday night in Victoria Island, Lagos. According to him, the 17th edition is locked in for April 5, spotlighting music from 2024. The nomination list? That drops on February 12.
But that’s just the beginning. There’s an 18th edition also lined up for December, though organizers are keeping the exact date under wraps for now.
The Headies, founded in 2006, has been a measuring stick for excellence in Nigerian music, celebrating the biggest names and breakout stars. After hosting the 2022 and 2023 editions in Atlanta’s Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center, the award show is finally bringing the vibes back home.
With two editions lined up in a single year, 2025 is shaping up to be a blockbuster year for Nigerian music.
