England captain Harry Kane says he's performing at his best and wants to continue playing for the national team beyond the 2026 World Cup.
Kane, 31, dismissed suggestions that the 2026 World Cup should be his last international tournament. He feels as good as ever, scoring 20 times for club and country in 21 appearances this season.
"I'm performing at the highest level I've ever performed," Kane said. "I don't look too far ahead, but the World Cup in America will be exciting."
Kane, already England's all-time record goalscorer with 69 goals in 102 games, wants to help the team win a major tournament. England last won a major tournament in 1966.
New England manager Thomas Tuchel, who previously coached Kane at Bayern Munich, will take charge in January. Kane believes Tuchel will bring energy and tactical expertise to the team.
"I think we need to win a major tournament," Kane said. "We've come close, and the next step is to win."
Kane was speaking at the unveiling of a statue of him at his former youth team Ridgeway Rovers in east London. He hopes to one day be honored with a statue at Wembley, like World Cup-winning captain Bobby Moore.
