Glasgow, Scotland, has been officially confirmed as the host of the 2026 Commonwealth Games. The event will take place from July 23 to August 2, 2026.
Glasgow previously hosted the Games in 2014. This time, the event will feature 10 sports, including athletics, swimming, gymnastics, cycling, netball, weightlifting, boxing, judo, bowls, and 3×3 basketball. Six Para sports will also be included.
The scaled-down event aims to reduce costs and environmental impact. Commonwealth Games Federation CEO Katie Sadleir says this new model will make hosting more accessible to other countries.
The 2026 Games are expected to deliver over £100 million in inward investment to Glasgow and generate £150 million in economic value added for the region. Notably, no public funding is required, with Australia contributing to costs after Victoria's withdrawal last year.
Sadleir stated, "The 2026 Games will be a bridge to the Commonwealth Games of tomorrow… increasing the scope of countries capable of hosting." The Commonwealth Games, held every four years, bring together nations formerly under British imperial rule.
