Former AS Monaco forward and French international, Wissam Ben Yedder, has been sentenced to a two-year suspended prison term for sexually assaulting a woman in September.
The 34-year-old, who left Monaco last season, encountered the woman during a night out on September 6, where he reportedly performed an explicit act in her presence. The woman quickly reported the incident to the police, leading to Ben Yedder's arrest that evening.
During his trial, Ben Yedder, now in a rehabilitation program, attributed his actions to alcohol. He did not attend his sentencing but stated, “I don’t remember anything… It’s because of alcohol that I’m here.”
Ben Yedder, a free agent, faces additional legal troubles. Another trial is scheduled in December where he is charged with psychological violence against his estranged wife, from whom he is in the process of divorcing. Furthermore, he faces an ongoing investigation into a rape allegation from summer 2023, which he has denied.
The footballer began his career at Toulouse, later moving to Sevilla in Spain. In 2023, a Spanish court found him guilty of tax fraud, resulting in a six-month suspended sentence. Joining Monaco in 2019, he became a key player, scoring 118 goals in 201 matches and earning a place among the club's all-time top scorers
