Portable recently shared his thoughts on the life and legacy of Afrobeats pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
During an interview on the ‘Echoo Room’ podcast with Quincy Jonze, Portable suggested that Fela’s early passing could be linked to his deep involvement in social and political activism. He speculated that Fela might have lived longer if he had prioritized his personal life over his outspoken stance on societal issues.
Portable went on to express his admiration for Fela's contributions to music and culture, acknowledging the significant impact Fela had on the global stage. However, he also questioned the toll that Fela's relentless activism took on his health and well-being.
“According to what we were told, if Fela had minded his business a little he would have lived longer. But he was busy fighting for Nigerians wey no fight for their selves.”
