Federal agents have reportedly raided the jail cell of American rapper Diddy, seizing materials meant for his legal defense ahead of his trial in May.
Diddy’s lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, accused prosecutors of using private legal documents taken during the search to keep the artist in custody.
In a filing submitted to Manhattan federal court, Diddy’s defense team claimed the confiscated items were legally protected and should not have been accessed by prosecutors.
“This search and seizure violate Combs’ Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Amendment rights,” Agnifilo told Judge Arun Subramanian.
The defense has also demanded answers about who authorized the raid, during which personal belongings and legal notes were taken.
Judge Subramanian has given prosecutors until 5 p.m. ET on Monday to respond and scheduled a hearing on the matter for Tuesday afternoon.
