Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has lauded Kobbie Mainoo's talent, comparing him to former French captain Zinedine Zidane. Scholes believes Mainoo, at just 19, is the closest player he has seen to Zidane in terms of ball control and composure.
Mainoo, who joined Erik ten Hag’s first team last season, concluded an impressive domestic campaign by scoring in Manchester United’s 2-1 FA Cup final victory over Manchester City. He also played a significant role for England, helping them reach the Euro 2024 final where they were defeated 2-1 by Spain.
Scholes remarked to The Guardian, “He’s the closest thing I’ve seen to Zidane in terms of taking and receiving the ball and effortlessly moving past opponents. I heard he held his own against Casemiro in training, sometimes even outshining him. The first time I saw him, his calmness and confidence with the ball were remarkable for such a young player.”
