Manchester City’s Omar Marmoush scored a first-half hat-trick as his team cruised to a 4-0 victory over Newcastle United at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. The win lifted Pep Guardiola’s side back into the Premier League’s top four.
Marmoush, who joined City from Eintracht Frankfurt in January for £59 million, made an instant impact by scoring his first goals for the club. His performance came just days after City’s disappointing 3-2 loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League.
The 26-year-old Egyptian forward opened the scoring when he capitalized on a long pass from City goalkeeper Ederson, lobbing Newcastle’s Martin Dubravka. He doubled his tally minutes later with a deflected shot after receiving a pass from Ilkay Gundogan. Marmoush completed his hat-trick after connecting with a cross from Savinho.
James McAtee sealed the victory with a fourth goal late in the game, tapping in a flick from Erling Haaland off a Gundogan corner. However, there was concern for City as Haaland was substituted after picking up a knee injury.
The result was a blow to Newcastle’s hopes of securing a Champions League spot, as they slipped to seventh place after losing three of their last four league games. Meanwhile, Manchester City moved closer to qualifying for next season’s Champions League despite struggling to maintain their usual high standards this season.
