Nottingham Forest handed Manchester United a second straight Premier League defeat with a thrilling 3-2 victory at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Rasmus Højlund’s equalizer for United canceled out Nikola Milenković’s early header, but Forest regained control with goals from Morgan Gibbs-White and Chris Wood. Bruno Fernandes managed to pull one back, but Forest held firm to seal their first win at Old Trafford since 1994.
The result lifts Forest to fifth place in the league table, while United, under new manager Ruben Amorim, remain in 13th.
Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag last month, started strongly with two wins and a draw but has now faced back-to-back defeats, following a 2-0 loss to Arsenal earlier in the week.
Reflecting on the match, Amorim told the BBC, “A tough game in a tough moment, but we have to continue the job. We’re at the start of something big, and while we see progress, we need wins to build confidence.”
United struggled with set-piece defense, as Milenković scored in the second minute from a corner. Højlund’s close-range finish brought temporary relief for the hosts, but Gibbs-White and Wood’s strikes put Forest ahead. Fernandes’ goal late on wasn’t enough to inspire a comeback.
Despite late pressure from United, Forest’s defense held firm, with goalkeeper Matz Sels making crucial saves to deny Fernandes and Marcus Rashford.
The loss compounds United’s difficult start to the season as the team works to adapt under Amorim’s leadership.
