Former England captain Alan Shearer says Thomas Tuchel must win the 2026 World Cup to justify his appointment as England's manager.
Tuchel, who replaced Gareth Southgate, has an impressive track record, winning major trophies with Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich.
"We need a trophy; it's that simple," Shearer said. "Tuchel has an incredible CV, but this is a different test. He's been hired to win the tournament."
Tuchel's appointment has sparked debate, with some criticizing the decision not to hire an English coach. Lee Carsley will lead England in the Nations League games against Greece and Ireland next month.
Gary Lineker, a former England striker, said, "Tuchel will see the squad's talent and think this is an opportunity to win the greatest trophy." However, Micah Richards defended the decision, saying, "We don't have an English candidate strong enough; Tuchel is an outstanding manager and proven winner."
Tuchel's contract begins on January 1, 2025.
