England’s new head coach, Thomas Tuchel, met with Prince William at Windsor Castle on Tuesday to discuss his plans for the national team.

The Prince of Wales, a well-known football fan and former FA president, was eager to hear Tuchel’s strategy as the German coach prepares for England’s World Cup qualifiers in March. Kensington Palace shared a photo of their meeting, with a message saying: “Great to meet with new England men’s manager Thomas Tuchel today, and hear about plans for the team.”

Tuchel officially took charge on January 1, replacing Gareth Southgate after the FA announced his appointment last October. The 51-year-old, previously in charge of Chelsea and Bayern Munich, is only the third non-British coach to lead the team, following Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.

During the meeting, Tuchel was joined by FA chief executive Mark Bullingham. His first big task will be selecting England’s squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia at Wembley.

England is still chasing their first major trophy since winning the World Cup in 1966, having come close in recent years under Southgate.
