Brazilian defender Danilo has officially left Juventus after the mutual termination of his contract, both the player and the Serie A club confirmed on Monday.

Juventus released a statement announcing the 33-year-old’s departure, saying, “Danilo Luiz da Silva and Juventus have parted ways after five and a half years together.”

During his time in Turin, Danilo made 213 appearances and helped the club win one Serie A title, two Italian Cups, and one Italian Super Cup.

Reports suggest Danilo is set to return to Brazil, where he will sign a two-year deal with Flamengo. His contract with Juventus was originally set to expire at the end of the season.

In an emotional farewell message on Instagram, Danilo wrote, “I knew this day would come sooner or later, but you’re never ready to say goodbye.”

Danilo’s departure comes after he lost favor with coach Thiago Motta, who arrived last summer and replaced him as team captain with Manuel Locatelli.

Meanwhile, Juventus welcomed Portugal defender Renato Veiga on Monday for a medical ahead of his loan move from Chelsea. The club also faces challenges in defense, as Brazilian center-back Gleison Bremer has been ruled out for the season due to a knee injury.

Juventus currently sits fifth in Serie A, just two points shy of a Champions League spot, and will face Benfica on Wednesday in the tournament.
